About Us
My name is Nathan Taylor, Owner of Top Shelf Interiors and Lead Taper. I was born and raised in Dawson City, Yukon Territory. Growing up in the Yukon, I've always loved sports and being outdoors. My first introduction to the trades was in my high school shop class, where I built sheds, furniture, and birdhouses. This is when I discovered my love for working with my hands and building things.
Taking pride in the quality of my work set me apart from my classmates, and I even won an award for a table I built in high school.Throughout my teenage years, I worked for renovation companies, building everything from decks, fences, and cabins to bathroom renovations, basement developments, and restoring historical buildings. During this time, I apprenticed and eventually attended NAIT in Edmonton for carpentry.
I enjoyed Edmonton and found work framing houses in and around the city.When the devastating fire in Fort McMurray occurred, I spent a year there framing homes for families affected by the disaster. While working for numerous companies I always wanted to start my own company and work for myself.
I worked through one very cold winter and realized I no longer wanted to work outside year-round. While framing houses, I crossed paths with a drywall company and became great friends with their tapers, helping them on weekends. Around the same time, I got to know a group of guys who owned several rental properties in Edmonton and needed someone to do maintenance on their properties.
I quit my job in February 2018 and started doing property maintenance, building decks and fences, along with finding small drywall jobs to get by. I quickly realized there was a huge need for professional drywall finishers who took pride in their work, so I dove into the drywall industry.
I slowly built up my clientele, working for homeowners, contractors, building companies, and real estate investors. Over the years, I have been blessed to work with so many great people and companies, and my business has grown every year. I have built a great team of craftsmen from numerous trades who are professional and take pride in delivering a quality experience and product. Working with amazing people helps everything run smoothly and makes the process easier for everyone, from other trades to management, and most importantly, the customer.
My goal from day one has been to provide peace of mind for our clients and a stress-free experience.
